New painting!

This is the newest painting I'm working on. Impressive, no? It's obviously not done yet. I'm kind-of excited though, because I tried some new techniques and they're actually working. I used a Speedball roller for the red part, and I splattered ink, and then wiped it with a paper towel for the blue. The blue is heaven, the red hell. In the middle there will be a black bar and text that says "You don't have to be an angel to be in heaven." and, on the flip side, "You don't have to be a demon to be in hell."

Art Cars

One of the blogs I follow - Art Car Central - made a post recently about a new government-developed car. To be honest, this post was more about politics then art, but. . . that's okay. In the post, the blogger has a video which is a "commercial" for the Pelosi car. It explains how it took one-hundred-billion dollars to develop, how it's the only car that's legal in 2012, and basically makes fun of every Democrat you can think of. Enjoy.

About the painting.

I have three different ways of painting.

The first way I paint is much like doodling. I mostly do this when I'm upset, or just bored. A lot of the time these end up being abstracts or textures. Sometimes I'll go back and add something over top to make them into a more interesting piece.

The second way I paint is pure experimentation. I've tried painting on duct tape (it worked), using acrylics, inks, oils, and watercolors with each other, painting with watercolors over white acrylics, poking holes in canvases, and all sorts of weird things. I really want to get my hands on some encaustic tools (encaustic is painting with pigmented beeswax).

The third way I paint is much more planned. I always get reference first, and figure out what medium(s) and techniques I'm going to use. I sometimes make sketches, thumbnails, and detailed drawings to transfer onto the canvas or paper. I also make myself take my time, which is hard.

What this blog is about.

This blog is about my painting. I suppose I'll be blogging about anything paint-related. Maybe the processes I use. Or famous painters I like. Or even the different types of paint. I chose to blog about painting because it's pretty much the only hobby I have, apart from collecting hats and writing code. But I didn't think either of those would be very interesting. So yeah. Stay tuned.
